I have used several REA books and some of them were fantastic. This book offers very little help. There have to be better sources than this. It is confusing and causes unnecessary anxiety. There is a little bit of information in it that may have helped me, but it was buried throughout.

They say to study for 6 weeks prior to testing. I studied for 4 days and passed.The biggest thing that threw me off, however, was that the essays were hand-written and not typed. Oh well, still passed.Word of advice though, give yourself more time that 4 days to go through this book and the online practice tests, that was stressful.

Fairly easy read so far, will update later I've read more than one chapter. Had a problem logging into the online portion with my product code. I called the help number listed on the website, and a kinda rude lady fixed it for me pretty quickly. Will update after I take the exam because I think that's probably the true test of the book's worth.

Definitely helped me to prepare for the exam. The practice exams were immensely helpful in both covering the content of the exam as well as familiarizing you with the format of the test itself.

I took the College Composition CLEP on pretty short notice. I reviewed this book during the week before and I feel it really helped me. I ended up passing the test without any issues and I have this book to thank!

CLEP College Comp did help me to pass the exam, it had been a while since I had formal instruction.

Good. The online tests are harder than the actual exam but give you good idea of what to expect.

Issue I have is that the code to do the online practice test didn't work. I think f the numbers in the code was misprinted or just missing.

I am a Chinese. And I am familiar with ancient Chinese political thought. This book is great in that it gives a general picture of the different schools in the Spring and Autumn era. Recommend to anyone who is interested in ancient Chinese political ideas.

The gist of Benjamin Schwartz's account of the evolution of Chinese philosophy is that, moral right does exist, and it is the responsibility of all people to pursue it. This view point alone, implies many assumption on the origin, purpose and ability of mankind. Considering the notion of moral responsibility was one that developed through time, as rulers and wise men refined and renounced Heaven's command, it is a view point that greatly obstructs Schwartz's clear view of history. Among the many credits paid the girthy, four hundred and ninety page book, The World of Thought in Ancient China, objectivity was among the most resonant. Objectivity, in the form of Schwartz's distant yet familiar observation of Chinese thought. As distant as any self-prescribed, outsider would be. The folly of so many philosophical accounts of the eastern world by westerners, is that they reflect on their own western life experiences, and socially derived ethics, to measure Asia's by. Schwartz, by the testimony of all reviewers who read him, takes on the role of a "sophisticated guide", who's knowledge of the east is not sullied by his attachment to the west. At the same time Schwartz's perspective is familiar, in the sense that in his pursuit to capture the essence of eastern philosophy, and present it sensibly to new world readers, he does not abandon his cultural essence. Objectivity and accuracy is reached somewhere between honesty and insight. Ironically, this seems to parallel the movement of philosophical wisdom which Schwartz maps out from the early Chou kings of China, through Confucianism, Taoism and eventually up to the present. The ultimate wisdom of the ages, which Schwartz reveals as he dissects the history of China, is that the best-fit solution often exists between diametrically opposed opinions. Unfortunately, Schwartz, himself is the only participant in this review of history who is lost to this fact. Benjamin Schwartz is much more then a sophisticated guide. His take on Chinese philosophy pays significantly more lip service to thinkers who's concepts conflict least with his core western beliefs. Even those which conflict with each other. For example, the divination of the Chou dynasty, Chinese kings. Believing, or knowingly misleading others to believe they were ordained by Heaven's command to rule, Chou kings assumed and abused their power. The two questions Schwartz asks, and answers are, "why [do] humans, and rulers in particular, go astray rather than maintain the order that was confirmed for them by Heaven" and "how [can] the vanguard of society recognize its responsibility, and develop the means, to restore that normative order"? Both, loaded questions, they suggest a definitive, heavenly order exists, and that it is, or should be the responsibility of rulers to follow it. To reinforce this notion, Schwartz sites Confucian thought, which expands the responsibility to do right, to the remainder of middle class and peasantry in China. Similar to the expansion of heaven's gates through the Christian reformation in Europe. Schwartz supports, contrary to centuries of Chinese thought, that Heaven's command is a doctrine for all. Schwartz latches on to other Confucian principles such as the significance of fate in an individuals moral behavior, and agrees with the philosopher that fate does not negate the responsibility of each individual to follow Heaven's command. A position which echoes that of "free will". Under it's Chinese name, "Jen." This is yet another Christian concept, that oozes its way into Schwartz "objective" analysis. Where Schwartz finds chinks in Chinese philosophical theory, he exercises draconian editorial discretion, glossing over major themes and prevailing opinions of eastern thought. And where he faces dissent head on, he adopts a classic, western, air of infallibility. He, outright, labels the non-introspective interpretation of "Jen", as wrong, since the idea of moral behavior not coming from internal review contradicts western legal principles which require motive, intent, and composure, in accessing personal liability. This concept goes directly against his previously held belief, in the irrefutable command of Heaven, which we all follow or are required to. The notion of personal, auto-review of moral behavior and moral judgment also comes into question. Schwartz aligns himself along the opinion supporting independent assessment of one's own behavior. But fails to recognize legal provisions that allow for decriminalization of those who are incapable of such reflection, in western courts. Not surprisingly, his most scathing criticism is directed at the teachings of Lao and Chuang Tzu, founders of Taoism. Who advocated an end to Heaven's command, and a return to uncontemplated, non-reflective action. Believing that the internal mechanism, which judges and prescribes moralistic behavior would guide unconscious action towards right. Taoism was the exhalation of the individual, and the breakdown of the unwritten moral code. Schwartz, a believer in individual understanding of Heaven's command, is however, not an individualist. Ultimately, doesn't trust people enough to be lead by their own moral compasses. Further more, his old-world, elitist view, has no room for the universal ethic of Taoism which puts the average man's morality on par with that of the bourgeois, and even more blasphemous, to raise the morality of the common peasant to the heights of the irrefutable command from heaven. Taoism's foremost crime against Benjamin Schwartz's ethical ideal, is that it gives no reason for an individual to act morally. Essentially it's akin to the civil libertarianism of modern politics, but differs in it's open ended acceptance of amoral behavior without judgment or punishment. For a man with as limited an amount of faith in humanity, as Benjamin Schwartz, this is too much freedom for the average person to enjoy. Ultimately, Schwartz tours the history of thought in China exactly as he claimed he would, a sophisticated guide. Surrounded by a sense of moral superiority, he views China as a foot note in history, who's philosophical achievements, insignificant by themselves, require juxtaposition against the thinking of western minds to validate them. His benevolent sophistication is confused with arrogance, and his inability to question his own understanding of what it is to be moral and why, finally infect the spirit of the book, and renders it simply, another manifesto on western supremacy. Where Schwartz fails, is that he sells the book as an objective history of china, while he excoriates and equivocates each concept that arises throughout China's dynasties, as if qualified to decide what morality really is. This book was written with a clear market in mind,conservatives and xenophobes. Perhaps they would enjoy Benjamin Schwartz's take on the world, because I certainly don't.

An amazing read. As always, Ebert provides fascinating information and analysis regarding some of the best movies one could see. I definitely have a new list of pending films.

I love reading about great classic movies. These are NOT reviews --- Roger Ebert has written essays describing WHY he considers these movies great .... very detailed and never boring. Roger brings a fresh perspective to explaining why I should watch these films and what makes them great.

There are two things to look at here. His choices and how he writes about them.More than a few of these films are simply, boring things he loves and he couldn't convince me are tolerable.However, what he says about the majority of these films is wonderful.His insight about the parallel between the protagonists and story of "The Searchers" and "Taxi Driver" is brilliant and, as far as I know, original. His chapter about watching "E.T" with two grandchildren is moving and illuminating.His appreciation of the truly great films is so visible that one can forgive him praising Bunuel and other purveyors of emptiness.

I confess that I’m not a big fan of movies or other forms of visual art. It’s not that I really have anything against the medium, it just seems that my time is so limited, that I rarely want to devote several hours of my frugal day to sit still and stare at a moving picture. I only mention this in my review because if someone such as myself can really enjoy this type of book, I would think that those who actually love going to the movies would find such a companion essential.Roger Ebert first became a household name when he teamed up with fellow Chicago film critic Gene Siskel, and the two hosted the weekly syndicated show “Siskel and Ebert”. On the show, they would review three or four movies per week and gave each movie a “thumbs up” or “thumbs down”. The show was so successful that there were many copycat shows that surfaced during the 80s and 90s, but Siskel and Ebert were the originals, and the best. Nothing was better advertising for a new movie that could bolster the moniker “Two Thumbs Up!” as part of its advertising.As time went on, the astute learned that being a film critic wasn’t necessary a job that “anyone could do”. In the late 80s, Roger Ebert started releasing annual books of his reviews, and one learned that the man was very insightful when it came to distinguishing great works of art from cookie-cutter exploitation. Then, the internet came along, and one could basically read every Roger Ebert review ever printed by going to his website. His insights and commentary were indispensable to all and he quickly became the most well-known film critic. I was one who, every time I would watch a movie, jump on to his website and read about what he had to say about the film that I had just watched. Most of the time I agreed with him, and he always had the ability to look much deeper and find things and see things that I could not.That seems to be what prompted him to do his “Great Movies” series. Unlike what many people might think, this book (and the two others that followed) aren’t actually reviews of these movies, but rather essays where Ebert goes a bit further and explains in more depth why these movies are, in fact, great. It should be pointed out that when Ebert actually reviewed a movie, he tried very hard not to include spoilers. When he writes these essays, however, he assumes that his audience has already viewed the films, or if they haven’t, would rather study such works and not really care that he often, gives away much of the plot.This book of movies covers a lot of ground, and I’m sure Ebert had to be a bit selective when choosing what films to feature. Most of the obvious ones are here (Star Wars, Citizen Cane, Gone with the Wind), but he also includes some very bizarre choices that 99% of movie goers not only haven’t seen, not only haven’t heard of, but probably couldn’t view such a film because of its limited availability. A lot of old, silent, foreign, and/or documentaries are featured here as well the more familiar. Again, though, this really isn’t a drawback. I imagine someone who seriously loves films would take a significant amount of time to attempt to track down all of the works that are featured here and purchase them to study for themselves. Fortunately, things such as the internet makes such an arduous task a bit more manageable.I really can’t think of anyone better than Roger Ebert to produce such a work as this, yet I must confess that the man’s devotion to the cinema could be rather frightening at times. As I read this book, I often thought “Did this man ever do anything in his life other than watch movies?” He would state things such as “I manage to go back and watch this film a couple of times per year”, or “I often study this movie with a film class, and we do a shot by shot analysis.” Sheesh. I really can’t imagine anyone devoting that much time to anything, let alone watching movies, but this was what made the man so respected in the industry.As I mentioned, if one is a bit lazy, one doesn’t really need to purchase this book, as he includes his “great movies” series on his internet site. Since many people can now access the internet via a tablet or a Kindle, one could definitely take such an advantage. It was sort of nice, however, to have all of these narratives in one place, which was why I chose to purchase it (and the fact that Amazon was having a sale).I’m sure I’ll not be the first person that will say this as I conclude this review, and it does sound a bit hokey, but here it goes: This book is a definite Thumbs Up. Thumbs way Up.

Some of the pieces here are very fine; perceptive, perspicacious, cleverly written and quite penetrating. On the other hand they are generally brief (obviously in order to suit a word count for Ebert's columns) and would be even better if he could go to further depths in what he has to say.I particularly thought his responses to The Third Man were quite wonderful and brilliant. Worth it if you care deeply about all these films (and he covers many great ones) --and if it is on sale.

Entertaining! Of course I don't agree with his choices, but I did enjoy reading his analysis of them. Some I haven't seen, so I couldn't pass judgment on those. But this man was a movie lover, and he made it his life's work to talk about what he liked and didn't in a movie. Keep on open mind and read it for fun. Hey, I might write my own book someday!

This collection of short, elegantly written essays touches on familiar classics as well as some lesser known movies (note: they are less known to me, probably not to serious film buffs). It will make you want to rewatch old favorites and watch the ones you haven't seen yet. Truly reads like a collection of love letters to what is best about the movies. It doesn't try to be definitive, I think that is one reason it works so well.

Ebert at his best--as he frequently is here--can write clean, unhackneyed prose that illuminates and aspect you never noticed before in a favorite film. I started reading him early, when I was in high school and he was just getting started. A couple of film-obsessed friends and I phoned him and invited him to lunch and he accepted our invitation. One of those friends ended up becoming a major critic himself. This book is very good company.

I'm a bookworm and most of my reading material concerns ETs and subjects dealing with the Ascension. This book was written in 1992 and, to me even here in late 2015, it is still possibly the best book I've ever read on these subjects. I've read it at least 2-3 times over the years and plan on reading it again. This book (and her explanation of The Family of Light) rang a chord in me like no other book has....as did Barbara Marciniak's 3 other books (all of which I also recommend). If I could keep only one book out of the hundreds in my metaphysical library, this is the one book I'd keep. It's truly sad Ms. Marciniak hasn't written any more books.

I first came across this book on the shelf of someone whom i knew very briefly. I picked it up and read a random page and just thought to myself "what!?". Snapped a pic then ordered it on amazon. The first chapter was a lot of "yeah, okay. Not really, but sure." Then somewhere in the second chapter I just felt with my whole being that this was the proper record of how things happened on Planet Earth. I've always been drawn to atheism, collectivism, and anarchism. I believe I stumbled upon this book at the perfect time. This is the one book where most things just clicked for me. It explains why we are where we are as a species, and the challenges of truly becoming enlightened as a person on Earth and as a member of the Family of Light.

Bringers of the Dawn is a lovely story, a kind of inspiring fairy tale. Is it true? Who knows? I first read it back in 2006 when I was more mesmerized by New Age Concepts. I still celebrate the overall concept of the Pleiadians, whoever they are, recommending that we need to become more conscious. But for me all my years of reading new age fairy tales – well, lovely as this book is, I can’t say it helped me become more conscious. It has only given me a lot more concepts in the way of direct awareness itself. – that powerful knowing accessed through the Presence of Silent Inner awareness. What has worked quite remarkably for me has been a direct connection with another human being who embodies enlightened consciousness, Dave Oshana who shares the powerful Enlightenment Transmission that is both extremely personal and powerfully transformative, through which my whole experience of life has been transformed, anger has dropped away, meditation is not something I need to do, it just happens to me spontaneously, to name a few of the changes from increased consciousness. So yes, bring on the Light!

I read this book about two years ago and it has had a tremendous impact on me. It was one of the first channeled books I've read, along with one of the Seth books and Conversations with God. The more I learned more about metaphysics, the more I wondered about the bigger picture of humanity and the universe. This book is so inspiring and the message is beautiful beyond words. Even if you do not understand channeling, the message is comforting. It feels intuitively right and true. Every once in a while I find myself reading short passages of this book and I will probably read it a couple more times throughout this lifetime. We are love and we are loved and thanks to Barbara and the Pleiadians, I am not afraid anymore. I have so many more years of life to live (I hope) and I am so glad to have read this book that has taught me that it is all about love and nothing feels truer to me than that. It feels so incredibly wonderful to know we are not alone and we do have a much grander and beautiful purpose than we are taught and led to believe.

Can't believe this book was written in 1992. It's 2018 and I am dumbfounded of how the content and the information in this book are so current. I can only imagine Barbara and the pleiadians were way ahead of our time when they wrote this book. It would be hard for most people to comprehend this book back in 1992 with so limited knowledge in technology, science, UFO discovery and true history, but now reading this book only makes perfect sense to our true human history and everything matches up and comes full circle.

About the Author

Morgan Wootten compiled a remarkable 1,274-192 (.869) record in his 46-year career at DeMatha High School in Hyattsville, Maryland. Under Wootten’s helm, DeMatha won legendary national championships in 1962, 1965, 1968, and 1984. In 1984, USA Today named Wootten the National Coach of the Year. His teams recorded 44 consecutive seasons with at least 20 wins and won 33 Catholic League championships. Most impressive, DeMatha has finished the season ranked number 1 in the Washington, DC, area 20 times in the last 33 years. Wootten first put DeMatha on the national map of high school basketball in 1965 when his team broke the 71-game winning streak of Lew Alcindor’s club at Power Memorial Academy (New York). More than 160 of Wootten's former players have played college basketball, and a dozen have played in the NBA. Wootten was inducted into the Naismith National Basketball Hall of Fame in 2000. He retired in November 2002. Wootten is regarded as one of the best teachers in the history of the game. Coaches throughout the world have read his books, watched his videos and DVDs, and sat rapt through his clinics for many years. He and his wife, Kathy, reside in Hyattsville, Maryland. Joe Wootten played for and was an assistant coach for his dad and is now an accomplished high school coach in his own right. Upon his arrival at Bishop O’Connell High School (Arlington, Virginia) in 1999, he turned the program around from a 6-game winner the year before his arrival to an average of 23 wins per season as head coach. He also serves as athletic director of the school. Joe has led O'Connell to 5 Virginia State Independent titles, 3 Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) regular season titles, 3 Alhambra Catholic Invitational titles, and 1 WCAC tournament title. He was selected as the Arlington County Coach of the Year three times, WCAC Coach of the Year once, and Virginia State Independent Coach of the Year four times. Well known for developing his assistant coaches, he has had one college head coach, four Division I assistant coaches, and 6 head high school coaches work with him before advancing in their careers. 32 of his O’Connell players have earned college basketball scholarships. Joe resides in Vienna, Virginia, with his wife, Terri Lynn, and their three children, Alexa, Reese, and Jackson.

I choose to read "Coaching Basketball Successfully" because I have always had a deep love for sports, and I am easily fascinated by the logic behind sports. My overall feeling about this book is that it does an exceptional job at breaking down the game of basketball to its simplest form. Morgan Wootten then goes on to explain simple yet key points to what makes up a great team.Morgan's book is all about sharing his experiences as a high school basketball coach and sharing what he has learned over his 46 years in coaching that makes individuals great players and teammates. The theme of Morgan's book is the ingredients to forming successful players and basketball teams. For example, Morgan states "you must help players strengthen their abilities, then blend these attributes into the best possible team structure" (63). This quote shows the theme by the way it tells coaches that in order to have great players you need to work on their skills and then blend these skills together to form a successful team. Altogether, Morgan's theme is all about focusing on the improvement of every individual player in order for a team to progress further.A term used by Morgan that caught my eye is imperative. For example, Morgan states "once again, it is imperative that the dribbler stays low for maximum quickness and control of the ball" (71). Morgan choose this word because he is giving coaches key aspects that all teams must have, and imperative means something needs to happen.After reading several reviews that were mostly positive, I would have to say that I agree with what most of them said. For example, one customer stated "this book does much more than just teach the game of basketball, it shows coaches how to prepare their kids to be successful in life." I agree with this statement because Morgan states "setting the tone for the team after a win or a loss is something that every coach should make an effort to do in the most positive way possible" (192). This quote shows that not only is Morgan showing coaches how to bounce their team back from a loss, but the importance of a great attitude and how it can positively affect you in everyday life. There was one review I disagree with, which is "some chapters aren't relevant however more pictures describing basic moves would be good." I disagree with this because Morgan goes in depth with every piece of advice he gives explaining why it is helpful, and then provides diagrams to explain every type of play he talks about.Altogether, this is a very well written book by Morgan Wootten in which he takes the game of basketball and makes it so simple with the key points he gives in order to be a well rounded player. I would recommend this book to all levels of players due to the fact that it not only helps players learn new skills, but even professionals can learn how to have a strong mindset going into each game from this book.TJHS 12th grade student

This book is one of the most definitive books on putting a team together no matter what sport. Morgan Wooten is one of the most revered coaches in all of basketball. Over 2 score plus years, Coach Wooten fielded year-in and year-out some of the most competitive teams in all of sports. He lays out principals that can be applied to any sports team that allows the coach to build a cohesive unit. Following these team building blocks will contribute to the success of any team.There are drills that are designed for basketball, but may be adapted to any number of other sports. I have used the drills for lacrosse teams. An imaginative coach can take the drills and apply them to any number of sports above a beyond basketball.I purchased this copy of the book as gift for a friend who was coaching women's lacrosse at a college. I give this book to coaches just for the insights that Coach Wooten provides.The broadcast anchor, James Brown, of Fox and CBS NFL Sports is a former player that benefited from the coaching of Coach Wooten. This is a book that any coach will find as a indispensable reference.

I bought this for my husband who is a basketball coach. He's read it three times! He says it's a great reference. This is a raving review for a non-reader.

Okay - easy to be a great coach when you have the talent he had

I was coaching soccer and was about to enter my first season coaching 7-8 year olds in basketball. This book was highly recommended by a guy I met at a soccer coaching camp who was primarily a basketball coach. Reading it was interesting, but it was definitely geared toward a higher age than 7-8 year old rec league. I agree with the philosophy of the book, and hope to use it as I move up in age for basketball coaching, but didn't get a chance to apply much of the practical advice in the book at this young age.

Good Old Hardy Boys- These characters are timeless. They are now 21st century guys I think the author did well with this book by integrating a lot of action, some humor, and responsible behavior from the readers.As usual they are involved in helping some friends and encounter a mystery. Someone is trying to steal a rare dirtbike and there are plenty of eligible character's. A good amount of dirt bike action, some a little extreme and to get girl readers, there are even champion girl dirt bike riders that compete with the guys not in a seperate class.Good moral and wholesome reading, nothing to weigh a reader down.

For those of you who may not know, Motocross Madness, #190 in the long running Hardy Boys series, will be the FINAL volume in the series that began in 1927. The characters of Frank and Joe will live on in a new spinoff series, called Hardy Boys Undercover Brothers, to be released in June 2005, but it won't be the same Hardy Boys as you've come to know them. Over the years, there have been other Hardy Boys spinoff series, such as The Hardy Boys Casefiles, Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys Supermysteries, etc., but those series were published right alongside the original Hardy Boys Mystery Stories series, which continued to add new volumes. The Hardy Boys Mystery Stories had gone through many changes since 1927, including changes in publishers, going to paperback, having rewrites done, etc., but they still managed to survive through it all, and a collector could count on seeing a new title come along almost as sure as counting on the sun rising each day. Now however, the sun has set, and the last volume has arrived. It's hard to believe that this series has lasted through 16 Presidents, is older than The Empire State Building and the Golden Gate Bridge, became a series only 15 years after New Mexico and Arizona became states, and a mere 24 years after the Wright Brothers invented the airplane, and yet continued clear until the 21st Century. I'm going to miss that thrill of looking forward to the next title in the series....

My son really enjoyed reading this book and could relate to it. Wish it had audible for it.Otherwise definitely recommend this book

My 11 year old son wasn't super impressed with this book like I was hoping.

My son couldn't put this book down. So many boys don't like to read (probably the "cool factor"), but the Hardy Boys books always keep my son reading. He loved this one in particular since he races motocycles. He said it isn't acurate always in the terms used and such, but he really enjoyed it.

It's a Hardy Boys book. I bought it for my classroom library, really in need of books for boys. It did the job.

This book is so great. I have issues having my boys read, but with this book it made them want to read.

I used to read the Hardy Boys books all the time as a kid, and I recently came across this volume. Even as an adult, it was fun to read. Dixon did a good job of explaining the motocross terms used in the book, so you don't need to know much about motocross to enjoy it. If you're already a motocross fan, reading this is even more fun!
