These bear book from Karma Wilson are some of the best kids books we have. I love that there is actually a story to read instead of those 4 or 5 words per page book. The illustrations are gorgeous and the dialogue has a nice natural rhythm to it as you read it. I started reading these to my girls around 6 months and both of them have loved listening to them. We have the entire collection and now I often give copies out as gifts to expectant friends or first birthdays. The "Bear Snores On" follows bear and his friends as they do all these things around him and he is oblivious and continues to 'snore on'....
This book is adorable! Each page has a rhyming verse, about 4 lines per page, with lots of alliteration and pictures that, like the cover, consume the whole page. I've raised four babies of my own; taught school for 20 years; and now have my first grandchild, so I have read a great many board books, and I think this is one of the best.Parents may be concerned that the text is too complex for a baby, who won't understand every single word here. Don't be. Studies show that babies learn, not only from attaching specific words to specific items, but from the cadence, the lilt, the flow of the English language. Your tiny person just needs to hear your voice flow at a time when you aren't stressed or busy.Perhaps best of all, the book is entertaining enough that if later on, your child returns to it as the "it" book, the read-it-again, every night request, you won't want to bang your head on a brick wall from the repetition. I learned never to bring a book into my home for my kids if I wasn't ready to read it many, many times, and I can promise you, I would read this one happily. And I think you will too.I paid the full Amazon price for this book and did not receive any kind of discount.
Bear Snores On was one of the first books ever given to my son. I had never heard of this book and didn't recognize it as one of the common books for children. Well, it quickly became my son's favorite book It is rhyming and you can use different voices for the various critters that visit Bear's den on a cold and blustery night. My son asked me to read it for years and then he began to read it himself. I loved this book so much that I purchased all of the other books about the many adventures of Bear and his friends. They are beautifully written and the illustrations are amazing. I have purchased Bear Snores On for many of my friends' children for birthdays or Christmas. We are now reading it to my second child who absolutely adores this book. My first, who is now 7 years old, still enjoys reading them from time to time. He knows it by heart and loves to read it to his little brother.
I was tasked with being Scientist of the Week for my kid's kindergarten class, and the assigned topic hibernation. The criteria were fairly wide-open. One option was to read a book. Based on reviews, I ordered this book. After spending a few minutes talking about hibernation -- at a very high level, I read the book. It was a success. For my audience, it was "just right" (and I liked reading it).
Oh my, these books are so awesome. I love them, and so does my toddler. Began reading this one when he was around 1. The words were a bit much for him to follow at that age, but with persistence, he grew to love the story and now we have several more Bear books. They are great for language and sparking interesting conversations between kid and grown-up.
I love this book so much, probably more than my toddler. He's at an age where he's singularly obsessed with vehicles so that's not surprising. I'm sure the beautiful cadence and imagery will win him over in time. This is such a great book that belongs in every little one's library. I see us reading this book for several years to come.
We desperately needed fresh bedtime material and a quick google search led me to this book. I would give it more stars if possible. My daughter (2.5) wants it every night. She prefers books that rhyme and have a nice cadence. Every time we get to a part that repeats "but the bear snores on", she says it with me and giggles. Sometimes we read the book and also and discuss in detail what the animals are doing page by page. I haven't gotten tired of it yet. It is one of my favorites too.
I am a retired teacher and my children always LOVED the "Bear" books by Karma Wilson! They loved to predict what was going to happen next, and all of the little animals included in the story. This is an adorable book about friendship!
One of my favorite books to read to my son, the book is a good size and the illustrations are lively and vibrant. Being a board book, it's sturdy and durable enough to keep around my 2 year old. There's now wear and tear but the spine and pages are intact! Board books are a must if you have small children! We also have hardcover/papaerbacks but the pages in them are either ripped or torn. Pro tip: reading this out loud in a theatrical "Sir Ben Kingsley" manner is definitely fun and your kids will love it! hahaha
