I use this book as a birthday gift for 13-14 year olds, and they have consistently responded favorably. I also gave it as gift to an adult who was planning her first trip to Israel, and she said the book was just what she was looking for as an orientation to the history and geography of the country. This book is not about hotels and restaurants
A great look at Old Testament stories and the locations where they took place from an expert on the subject. I have had the pleasure of traveling with Julie as our guide on a trip to the holy land and her written take on this subject brought back great memories of her humor and her knowledge of this very interesting subject. Recommend highly as a good - and inspiring read.
I'm so thrilled with this book, that I am giving it to fellow travelers, and to my own pastor to help her become a better story teller.Julie has a great gift of narrative: seeing the big picture, putting history in context, and then personalizing the dilemmas of the characters, and tying it to what happened, and to our own spiritual lives. Equally appropriate for Christians and Jews -- this is a great reference book, interesting reading for the armchair traveler, and highly recommended.
This book will open your eyes to some things I have typically looked over. I read it right before we went to Israel and it helped tremendously at all of these sites. It's broken in to many different stories so it's an easy read.
A great travel book, to read from cover to cover, and have handy as you travel through the special places in Israel, especially with Julie Baretz, which I did! What a gift!!! Julie is a wonderful tour leader, so very knowledgeable and informative, whether you are with a Jewish group, Gentile or mixed. Julie has a knack for sharing bits and pieces of biblical history with flare. I'd go again with Julie in a minute, and will most certainly read the book again.
The book take 20 Biblical events and discusses the event, provides the Scripture, and at the back of the book, gives instructions on how to find it. I read the book but have not yet taken it on the road here in Israel.
Great book Julie - haven't gone through it all yet, but know I will enjoy reading this. You've obviously put a lot of thought into its content - and your story telling gift is already obvious!
Julie was our guide when we toured Israel, and she is incredible! She brought history to life and gave us such depth of Biblical history. When I read her book, I can still hear her voice and the passion she has for this land's history, and can still feel the crunch of the gravel beneath our feet as we toured the sights. I am so thankful that she was inspired to document the experiences.
