Verdict: A potentially good crime story gradually loses believability because of a misleading title, sloppy writing and an impossible point of view.1. In the first chapter, the author says Ken and Barbara fled Aberdeen for a town where no one would know about their affair, a place to start over. "They found that place in the north town of Moree and he easily found work in the local slaughterhouse with the same jovial manner..." But in the next paragraph, the author describes Ken as the prodigal son, and that while Barbara may have lost touch with most of her friends and family, "the Knights were still a presence in Moree." So this new town of Moree is now Ken's hometown. Which are we supposed to believe? The author has already majorly mislead us.2. Now we realize the author is a flat out liar. This is not a cannibalism story.3. The next major mistake we find is that it soon becomes very hard for the reader to distinguish Barbara and Katherine, because of the author's poor grammar. Here is an example. After pages and pages of telling us how Barbara is abused by Ken we get this paragraph: "Before long, she was rescuing injured animals and nursing them back to health in her room at home. She was fiercely defiant when Ken tried to take them away from her, to the point that she was able to make the brutal patriarch back down and let her tend to her wounded animals in peace." Actually, he is talking about Katherine here. The read becomes too confusing to follow.4. The story feels crammed into a shorter book than it need be. There are no supporting footnotes and only casual mentions of the context. The author never informs us that story is set in Australia at all. But there is a reference to 'Australian men' 30 or so pages in. A proper true crime story goes out of its way to underscore the facts, to impress that this is real, whereas this author treats the subject like a National Inquirer Story. It could be real, but is it?Conclusion: A riveting crime story gradually loses credibility because of the author's mistakes and - not to mention - the impossible point of view that occurs often, when no one could possibly know what happened except a dead person.

This could have been worthwhile if the author didn't put forth such great effort to what is actually a tawdry low class work. Perhaps a thesaurus might be of value.

The story is intriguing because it reveals the making of a killer--a very sad story of countless abuses and addictions. Makes me realize I am glad NOT to have lived in Australia! I found myself feeling sorry for the townspeople because their lives were so dreary. Horrible existence. It's no wonder people could be so depressed, succumbing to addictions and mental issues. While the story unwinds, we learn about a woman's despicable life of torture: the torture she inflicted and the torture of mental illness that she felt. Crazy ending.

Being from the U.S., I had never heard about this story before. What always amazes me is how the mental health and criminal justice systems worldwide miss so much when dealing with persons like the woman featured in this book. While not everyone with a horrific childhood will grow up to be a someone who preys on others, there are enough correlations when studying past cases to know that this is a common trait. Our systems for protecting children need vast improvements. I have read some of this authors other books and have enjoyed them, as I did this one. If you like true crime, you should like his work. For those that are not sure or have never read true crime, be forewarned that these books are graphic and don't gloss over the details. I plan on reading more of this authors work.

It may be a true story about a crazy woman but it is not about a cannibal eating men. She did assault men and killed one but didn't eat him.

This book kept me awake at night, not being able to stop reading. Ryan Green has become my favorite author, with his ability to pull you into the story and make you feel like you’re watching it happen in front of your own eyes. Be ready to be shocked and on the edge of your seat with this book.

This was the first book I've read by this author but it definitely won't be the last. After reading the book I googled Katherine Knight and was amazed at how beautifully, eloquently and accurately written it was based on the true facts. There were a few small discrepancies but nothing that detracted from the story. This was a truly scary book by the mere fact that it was based on a real person and a true story. I absolutely love true crime novels and this was definitely one of the best I've ever read. Thanks Ryan Green and I look forward to more of your writing in the future.

This was a very well written true crime story about a gruesome crime that occurred in Australia. I've read another book about this crime as well, however this one the author brings you right into the story, almost feels like you are there. I definitely recommend this one!
